Suspicious transactions

I got a call from the bank this afternoon asking me if Martin was in Europe. They were verifying some transactions.

When we were in England a couple of years ago our cards got cut off because they were calling our home number to check if the transactions were legitimate and obviously we weren’t there.

After that incident we made sure that they knew to call on Martin’s US cell if there were any issues and they couldn’t get hold of us at home.

I almost ignored the call. I was on my way out and I saw that it was a 1-800 number and therefore likely to be a survey or something similar. Thanks to me, Martin didn’t get a late night call from the bank. (Though I hear he was out at a pub in Birmingham…)

Anyhow- the bank were suspicious because the transaction was much smaller than his usual ones. It was only $27!

So Martin- if that is my present for 2 1/2 weeks on my own with the kids- you had better go shopping again. :)

Applebees Nurse Out

Being a bit of a lactivist I was excited to get involved in a national nurse out at Applebees after a Kentucky woman’s bad breastfeeding experience in a so called ‘family’ restaurant.

Hugo wore his pro breastfeeding T-Shirt and Aoife said “I’ll tell them not to be rudies about breastfeeding’.

The text on the T-Shirts read “Breast Man” and “I eat at Mom’s”

We had a fun time. We got nothing but support from passers by. When we went in to Applebees to give them a copy of our press release we were given ‘high fives’ by the waiting staff.

Mall security came over to speak to us and check out what we were doing. They too were supportive. One lovely security guard came over specifically to say she supported our campaign.

I can’t get over the corporate response to the issue. They have said “”we are also considering keeping blankets in the restaurants for use by breast-feeding mothers that may not have them readily available as a result of this incident.”

I won’t ever eat in Applebees anyway. I went once after a La Leche meeting – how ironic- and my cheese quesadilla came with bacon in.That is a battle for another day….
