Time Zones and DST
The day before Hugo arrived I remember saying to my midwife that I hoped he arrived at a time that was the same day in the US and the UK to make things easier. Aoife had timed her arrival perfectly at 4.56pm in Utah (11.56pm in the UK).
Hugo arrived at 8.06pm Mountain Standard Time on October 28th. Normally the UK is 7 hours ahead of Utah but at that point in time there was only a six hour gap because the UK clocks had turned back an hour and the US were to do it a few hours later. We’ll stick with the 28th as his birthday though…
Twice a year Martin and I tease certain members of the family about the time change. We make up a different story every time and have managed to get people thoroughly confused.
Well this year we are changing our clocks ahead of the UK and will actually have 3 weeks more DST in total. DST begins for us on March 9th and ends on November 4th. So for two weeks in March there will be a 6 hour time difference between Utah and the UK and for a week in Oct/November there will be an 8 hour time difference.
It is laid out here in black and white.
Of course this could all be an elaborate hoax. I’ll let you all decide…
